    • Homeostasis: Maintaining a constant internal environment in the body (a fundamental characteristic of life)

    • Hypothalamus: A part of the brain that monitors the condition of the body and responds to changes (ex. like temperature changes)

    • Excretion: the removal of waste substances from blood or cells.

    • Excretory system: An organ system that deals with excretion including the kidneys, lungs and skin.

    • Hypothermia: Hypothermia is when the core body temperature drops below normal and homeostatis cannot correct it. It may be life threatening.

    • Diabetes: Diabetes is the inability to control blood sugar levels, causing hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose levels), or hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose levels)

The blood contains  a surprisingly similar concentration of salts as sea water
